Matthieu Lange's Top 10 Films of 2018


Actor, model, aspiring filmmaker and all round film fan, Matthieu Lange has big plans for 2019. Setting out to shoot a documentary in South Africa focusing on the efforts made by conservationists, vets and anti-poaching units to preserve the life of endangered animals and the attempt to keep these animals out of the firing line of big game hunters. 10. Ready Player One

5. Black Panther

3. Bohemian Rhapsody

"Bohemian Rhapsody is a movie based on the true story of Queen's journey from the start of the rock band to their now-legendary 1985 performance at the Live Aid concert in Wembley Stadium. The story chronicles lead singer Freddie Mercury's tempestuous journey from an outcast immigrant struggling to find his place in a rejecting society to his becoming a beloved and world-famous icon."


2. The Favourite

"Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen's companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way."

"Set in 1970s Mexico, the film is a semi-autobiographical take on Cuarón's upbringing in Mexico City, reconstructed from Cuarón's childhood memories. The film follows the life of a live-in housekeeper of a middle-class family as the father leaves for an extended period of time."

The Cinematography of Blade Runner 2049 - Part 1

Denis Villeneuve and Roger Deakins have become a pairing that dreams are made of, and before the first trailer had even dropped for Blade Runner 2049, everyone already knew they were in for a visual spectacle that would be appreciated for years to come. Bagging Roger Deakins his 14th Oscar Nomination and well overdue win, it's not too far fetched to say that Blade Runner 2049 is one of the most beautiful films ever made, with director Denis Villeneuve calling it "the most expensive art house film ever made". So let us all appreciate and gaze in awe at some of the stunning work put into Blade Runner 2049. It's well documented that the camera that made Roger Deakins start shooting digital rather than film was the Arri Alexa. Deakins had shot all of his work on film up until 2011 where he used the Alexa for the first time on Andrew Niccol's "In Time". So it's no surprise that Blade Runner 2049 was shot on the Alexa. In fact it was shot on 3, the Arr
