The BEST Affordable Tripod for Filmmakers

Image result for benro aero 2
Within the past 3 years of my filmmaking career, I've constantly been on the pursuit for a tripod that strikes the balance between affordable, lightweight, strong and with a fluid head. And in that time I've tried out a lot of different tripods from a lot of different brands including Manfrotto, Sachtler and Oconnor. But I've never been fully satisfied with a tripod.
For someone who does a lot of run and gun documentary work means that I have a lot of very specific needs when it comes to what I consider a good tripod. And I have finally found one that does the job for me.

The Benro Aero 2 is my idea of the ideal tripod and it has absolutely blown me away. The full aluminium construction gives the tripod a premium and high quality feel without compromising on the strength and durability whilst also maintaining an incredible lack of weight. Once this camera is attached to your camera bag it becomes barely noticeable due to it's light weight and ability to fold down into a very compact form factor.
I have tested out a lot of "travel" tripods and can vouch that none of them come close to the sheer value for money that this tripod has to offer. My main issue with most tripods around this price point is the lack of quality when it comes to tripod heads. But the Benro Aero 2 doesn't compromise in the slightest, the fluid head is one of the smoothest I've ever used, giving the user endless possibilities when it comes to smooth pans and tilts.
Another aspect of this tripod that you won't find on any of it's competitor products is it's ability to transform from a tripod into a mono-pod thanks to it's detachable legs and flat mount head. For someone who usually carries both a tripod and a mono-pod with them, this was an absolute game changer in terms of efficiency.

Where this tripod really shines is it's price point which literally left me speechless. Before I got this tripod my usual go to tripod was my Sachtler Ace XL which definitely wasn't cheap, and because of this I was a bit anxious taking it places and was constantly worrying about breaking it. But the Benro Aero 2 comes in under $200. I really don't understand how Benro have been able to make such a high quality, light and intuitive tripod at such a low price point.
For any filmmaker looking to purchase a new tripod, I couldn't recommend the Benro Aero 2 enough. It really strikes the balance between travel friendly, high quality and affordability that you're really not going to find anywhere else.

The Cinematography of Blade Runner 2049 - Part 1

Denis Villeneuve and Roger Deakins have become a pairing that dreams are made of, and before the first trailer had even dropped for Blade Runner 2049, everyone already knew they were in for a visual spectacle that would be appreciated for years to come. Bagging Roger Deakins his 14th Oscar Nomination and well overdue win, it's not too far fetched to say that Blade Runner 2049 is one of the most beautiful films ever made, with director Denis Villeneuve calling it "the most expensive art house film ever made". So let us all appreciate and gaze in awe at some of the stunning work put into Blade Runner 2049. It's well documented that the camera that made Roger Deakins start shooting digital rather than film was the Arri Alexa. Deakins had shot all of his work on film up until 2011 where he used the Alexa for the first time on Andrew Niccol's "In Time". So it's no surprise that Blade Runner 2049 was shot on the Alexa. In fact it was shot on 3, the Arr...
